ALTAS educational vision
ALTAS’ educational vision brings students’ lives into their schoolwork and their schoolwork into their community. Students practice science through studying the levels of pollutants in Lake Quinsigamond. History is explored by researching the ways that larger historical trends have played out within our local community, from industrialization to immigration. A diverse collection of visual, performing and bodied art forms are practiced and master artists are studied so that students learn about everything from free styling to bachata, from capoeira to mural art, from Frida Kahlo to Maya Angelou. We believe that by taking learning out of a classroom we are honoring and validating the student and the teacher in all of our youth. Our school will allow our students to see their community through a lens that both celebrates and extends their genius.
